Andover

History

Andover Cricket Club was established in 1865, with home games being played at the London Road ground for most of the club’s history. The ground is still the club’s headquarters today, and the club currently has over 250 adult and junior members.

In 1973 the club became a founder member of the Hampshire League and finished runners-up in 1974. Andover continued to have success through the late 1970s and early 1980s, and in 1986 were invited to join the Southern Premier League, membership of which lasted until 1994, when the club was relegated back to the Hampshire League. Following a period of rebuilding, the Club’s fortunes were restored at the end of 1997 season with promotion back to the Southern Premier League.

In 2000, club cricket in Southern England was re-organised into three primary divisions when the current Southern Premier League was born. Membership of the Southern League was offered to clubs based on achieving certain key accreditation criteria, including an established colts section together with high quality ground facilities and conditions.

Andover were delighted to be invited to join the Gold Division and become a member of the top ten elite clubs in Central Southern England.

Since then, the 1st XI has become an established side towards the top of the Southern Premier League pyramid, currently playing in the Southern Premier League Division One. The club has also developed one of the best playing surfaces in the south, winning “Ground of the Year” in 2018 and finishing as runners-up in 2019.
