Easton and Martyr Worthy

History

The Club originally played cricket under the guise of Easton CC and although it is known that cricket has been played at the ground in Easton since the early 1900’s. Easton and Martyr Worthy Cricket Club were founded under its present title in 1946 when, after the Second World War, Easton Cricket Club, a vibrant village side, amalgamated with a neighbouring hamlet Martyr Worthy, which was struggling to re-establish a cricket side following the cessation of hostilities. In 2010, support from the National Lottery and Easton Village enabled EMWCC to build a new larger clubhouse for the 2011 season.

Junior Cricket at Easton and Martyr Worthy CC

EMWCC junior section provides coaching for young cricketers of all abilities from the ages of five to fifteen. We provide a safe and supportive environment for all our juniors to learn and develop their cricketing skills. Our main aim is for our Junior players to have fun playing cricket and to play to the best of their ability, but we also wish to nurture an understanding and a love for the game of cricket where our Junior players play cricket fairly and with respect for their team mates, the opposition and officials.

Training Sessions

For our youngest members – Under 6s (School Year 1) to Under 8s (School Year 3) – we offer an All Stars Programme from May to June. All Stars sessions take place at the clubs grounds in Easton on Thursday afternoons. Sessions are led by trained All Stars Activators and are a great introduction to cricket providing a fun environment to begin learning the skills of batting, bowling and fielding.
For children in the age groups from Under 9s (School Year 4) through to Under 15s (School Year 10), outdoor summer training sessions take place from April to the end of July.

Great Volunteers

All our coaches and Team managers are volunteers who are usually parents of junior cricketers. We are always keen to involve any parents who are interested in helping and improving our junior section. An advanced level of cricketing knowledge is not required to make a difference and there are many supporting roles available, from assisting coaches at training sessions to helping at matches. We regularly look to secure places on training courses run by Hampshire Cricket for those who wish to learn more about coaching, umpiring or scoring.

Family Club

Colts’ families are an essential part in making Easton and Martyr Worthy the friendly and open club it is. Friday evenings is club night with a BBQ and bar open to families to come and enjoy the beautiful grounds and watch a friendly match.
