IBM Hursley

IBM Hursley Cricket Club’s first official game was on the 15 May 1962. We have grown over the years with the Club now fielding 3 adult teams in the Hampshire Cricket League as well as evening midweek games, Sunday friendlies and winter indoors squads.

Since the introduction of our Junior Section in 2009 we have continued to expand, with Colts teams running from Under 9’s to Under 15’s.

The first official game for IBM Hursley was on the 15 May 1962. Until 1967 the Club led a nomadic existence, and home games were played at various grounds in the area. Fleming Park, Hursley Park, Chandler’s Ford, St Cross, the Winchester council pitches at North Walls and KGV, and Southampton Sports Centre, were all used.

IBM instigated the formation of the Winchester Evening League, and have been members of the Hampshire League since it began.

The IBM Clubhouse was formally opened on the 29 April 1966, and the first cricket match was played on the “new” sports field on the 10 June 1967. The original Clubhouse was the little bungalow on the bend of the road, about half way between the present Club and the main House.

We run a full programme of cricket with 3 teams in the Hampshire cricket league, a full programme of Sunday friendlies, evening midweek cricket in the Winchester league as well as adult indoor cricket teams over the winter.

2017 saw the introduction of IBM Hursley’s first ever women’s team who participate in the W10 initiative and other women’s cricket tournaments.

Our home ground is set in the beautiful grounds of IBM at Hursley and we are very lucky to have the adjoining Clubhouse serving cricket teas which are the envy of many visiting Clubs.

IBM HURSLEY JUNIORS

We run 4 junior teams during the summer – Under 9’s, Under 11’s, Under 13’s and Under 15’s. We also attempt to field Colts teams in winter indoor competitions, where they are available.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly and inclusive Club, welcoming players of all abilities – including girls whose numbers are growing each year.

Many of our “older” Colts have come right through the Colts set-up at IBM Hursley and are now playing for our adult teams in the Hampshire League or in Sunday friendlies.

All our coaches are qualified, DBS checked, keen and enthusiastic and lead our training throughout winter and summer, ably supported by a number of keen parents. Some of our parents and ex-Colts are now Coach Support Workers too.

Our winter training starts in January and runs through to end March/early April and is held either at the IBM Clubhouse sports hall (Under 9’s) or at Hampshire Collegiate School, just outside Romsey for all other age groups. From April, all our age groups train in the evenings at the pitch at IBM Hursley through to the end of the season (around end July).

We’re members of Winchester Warriors Junior Cricket, the District Association for junior cricket in this area, and the Club is affiliated to the Hampshire Cricket Board. We have links with local schools and participate in the  “All Stars”, “Dynamos” and “Chance to Shine” Programmes.

We are a ClubMark Club which means you can have the reassurance that our Club is well managed and led, and we offer great opportunities for all to enjoy the game of cricket.
